Executive Board Meeting


March 5, 2002
 
A meeting of the Stony Creek Association Executive Board was called to order by President Peter Brainerd at The Church of Christ at 7:33pm on Tuesday, March 5, 2002.
 
Present: Peter Brainerd, President; Gregory Ames, Treasurer; Jake Greenvall, Tax Collector; Board Members: Ron DeFord, Stan Fisher, Sandra Fischer, Dorothy Leachman, John Opie, Nina Smith, Clerk
 
Absent: Lucia Blanchard, Daniel Bullard, Jonathan Waters, Marvin Zimmerman, Vice-PresidentPublic: 3
 
Minutes: A motion was made/seconded and unanimously approved to accept the minutes of February 5th meeting.Treasurer’s Report: A copy of the Treasurer’s report was distributed.Total cash checking: $6656.25 (General Fund $6546.25; Ramshaw Memorial Fund 111.00)Total income: $123.86 ($6.44 interest, $117.42 Other)Total expenses: $1105.08Total Cash CD: $20,539.365 (General Fund 8,649.69, Sidewalks 8,819.04, Summer House 2,464.72, Open Space 605.91)A motion was made/seconded and unanimously approved to file the Treasurer’s report for audit.Bills: A motion was made/seconded and unanimously approved to pay the following bills:

Tax Collector: Liens will be put on next month as usual.
 
Legal & Zoning: Marvin submitted a report that there were two requests for variances (19 Flying Pont Road for a rear line variance and 295 Thimble Islands Road for a sideline variance) upon which the association will take no action.
 
Maintenance: Stan is to call Empire Paving – sidewalks are progressing – Sandra is to call Alex Paluzzi regarding raking and cleaning the beach and park, and repairing benches in Madeira Park. (Note Peter has two benches which just need boards and can be installed in Madeira Park.) We received a complaint about Madeira Park and dog droppings. We do have a litter ordinance with a $25-50 fine, though not enforced, and litter constables. There were also complaints concerning the kids defacing the newly-poured concrete sidewalks.
 
Police and Traffic: Commissioners will test other busses. Beth Milne representing the tour boat operators would like to unload more of the busses at the Triangle and have people, especially the children, walk to the dock, and requested an additional crosswalk.
A motion was made, seconded and unanimously approved to request that the Police commissioners install a crosswalk on the south side of Thimble Islands Road and Sachem Road intersection, and to also request flexible vertical bollards.Administration: The census was completed and mailed. Our CD matures March 29 and we will renew probably for 3 mos.
 
Old Business: Loretta Fox addressed the board re Stop the Pipeline and noted that she will be addressing the legislature in Hartford on March 6 about a moratorium on cross-sound pipelines. She encouraged people to go to the public hearing on April 2 in Branford and also March 11&16 in New Britain.
 
New Business: John Herzan addressed the board representing the Connecticut Historical Commission and the Quarry Workers Celebration Committee regarding contributing to the cost of sponsoring the Stony Creek Quarry for nomination to the National Register, as we had for Stony Creek and the Thimble Islands years ago. A firm, Bruce Cloulette of Past Inc, Storrs, CT, has been hired to do the documentation required. Cost of the study is $4200. The first half has been paid and of the second half, the town and state are contributing $700 each.
 
A motion was made/seconded and unanimously approved to contribute $700 toward the preparation of the National Registry form for the Stony Creek Quarry. The association will be billed their share upon completion of the job.A motion was made/seconded and unanimously approved to adjourn the meeting at 8:51 pm.Respectfully submitted,Nina N. The next meeting of the Stony Creek Association Executive Board will be held on Tuesday, April 2nd at 7:30 pm at the Church of Christ, Fellowship Hall.
