Visions of America: A program in honor of Walt Whitman’s 200th birthday
May 31 2019 marks the 200th birthday of Walt Whitman (1819-1892), who was not only one of America’s greatest poets, but a writer whose subject was often the country itself. In a series beginning with a selection of Whitman’s poems, Mark Schenker will lead discussions on great works of American literature—works that give varied views of what is meant by an American life.
